Having been asked to bowl first, an aggressive opening spell from openers Hamza Qureshi and Akhil Sajeev reduced HK to 60/5; before a pair of wickets each for spinners Hamoud Jandu and Abdul Sadiq and a further wicket for Faez Qureshi wrapped up the HK innings for 118. Needing to negate a potentially tricky 40-minute period prior to lunch, openers Meet Bhavsar and Gokul Sunil Kumar got things going with contrasting innings in a 60-run stand.
